Thousands of Dogs Abandoned Along Southern Border

If you’re a dog person as I am, this story will outrage you. Thousands of innocent dogs are being abandoned by people illegally crossing the southern border. Some of these dogs then end up breeding, so the problem keeps getting worse.

My understanding is that many people who come to the border with dogs think they’ll be able to keep the dogs with them but then find out that animals are not allowed to cross into the U.S. so they just leave them behind.

Matt Finn, one of the FOX News reporters covering the border, recently spoke to TMZ about this:

DOGS ABANDONED BY MIGRANTS … Reporters & National Guard Caring for Pups

There’s a crazy thing happening along the southern border — migrants attempting to enter the United States with their dogs are forced to leave them behind, and it’s creating a whole other crisis.

FNC reporter Matt Finn is on the ground in Eagle Pass, Texas and joined us Thursday on “TMZ Live” to reveal what he’s seeing firsthand … and how he and other TV crews are getting involved, and taking some of the dogs in themselves.

Matt says tons of migrants are trying to cross the border with their dogs, only to be told they can’t bring the pups with them to federal processing centers … resulting in strays roaming the border.

The circumstances leave dogs in need of food, water and shelter … and Matt says troops with the National Guard are taking care of some of the doggos … and he and his producer have helped out too.

Here’s a quick video report:

This makes me absolutely crazy.

More from FOX News:

Animal welfare groups are calling on the Biden administration to address a large number of abandoned pets at the southern border.

Fox News Digital obtained photos and videos of pets in Colony Ridge, Texas, from animal advocacy group Boots on the Ground that were reportedly abandoned by migrants, including some that appear severely neglected or injured.

Scores of animals have been abandoned at the U.S.-Mexico border as illegal immigrants flood into the country in record-breaking numbers.

Immigrants who are apprehended by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are often forced to leave their animals behind because animals are not allowed inside federal processing centers.

Chase Scott, spokesperson for Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR), a dog rescue group, told Fox News Digital the “number of abandoned dogs along the border is in the thousands,” and the Biden administration is “doing virtually nothing” to address the situation.

Julio Rosas, who is covering the border for Townhall, found an abandoned puppy at the border in December and rescued it, taking it home with him. Here is a timeline from then to now. It’s a very happy ending.

I just don’t understand how someone could leave a dog behind, and I applaud Julio Rosas for taking this action. Bella will bring him so much happiness.
