American College of Pediatricians Asserts ‘Gender-Affirming Therapy’ is Not Beneficial to Youth

Last week, I reported that French Senators want to ban gender transition treatments for minors, after a report described sex reassignment for young people as potentially “one of the greatest ethical scandals in the history of medicine”.

Now it appears the tides are turning on sex change treatments for youth in this country as well.

A national organization of pediatricians and other health care professionals claims that “gender-affirming” therapies have not been shown to benefit adolescents with gender dysphoria.

The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds), based in Florida, released a position statement on Feb. 7 stating that “social transition, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones have no demonstrable, long-term benefit on the psychosocial well-being of adolescents with gender dysphoria.”

“A review of at least 60 research papers demonstrates no benefit to social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones or surgical interventions for these youth,” lead author and vice president of ACPeds, Dr. Jane Anderson, wrote in an email to Fox News Digital.

ACPed is a breakoff group from the left-leaning and much larger American Academy of Pediatrics, which supports “gender affirming care.”

In another bold move, the ACPeds is bitterly clinging to actual science.

Contrary to claims someone can change their sex, ACPeds “affirms the medical fact that the sex of an individual is based upon biology and not upon thoughts or feelings.”

Dr. Jane Anderson, vice president of the group and lead author of the statement, provided further comments to The College Fix via a media statement. She taught pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco.

The Fix asked how policymakers, such as legislators, public health officials, and schools could use the report.

She said, “none of the so-called ‘gender affirming’ interventions, including social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, and surgical procedures – either in isolation or in combination – improve the mental health and well-being of adolescents who identify as ‘transgender.’”

“There is no good evidence that those interventions prevent suicides in adolescents seeking them.” Anderson said. “They may actually increase that risk.”

The Washington Post, arguably one of the most woke of all “news” organizations, derides the group for being….conservative.

The records show that after long struggling to attract members, the American College of Pediatricians gained outsize political influence in recent years, primarily by using conservative media as a megaphone in its quest to position the group as a reputable source of information.

The organization has successfully lobbied since 2021 for laws in more than a half-dozen states that ban gender-affirming care for transgender youths, with its representatives testifying before state legislatures against the guidelines recommended by mainstream medical groups, according to its records. It gained further national prominence this year as one of the plaintiffs in the federal lawsuit to limit access to mifepristone, a key abortion drug.

So both common sense and real science show that that chromosomes determine sex and using hormones on children is harmful. However, as is clear from the Washington Post piece, you can’t use reason and logic to persuade cultists.

As Big Tech billionaire and the salvager of the social media platform X Elon Musk notes, everyone is now “far right”.
